Built to run itself
A bioactive terrarium isn't a pot plant under glass. It's an entire ecosystem working together keeping itself going.
Living plants
Mosses, ferns and creepers chosen for humidity and low light — the ones that thrive sealed in, not the ones that photograph well for a week.
A cleanup crew
Springtails and isopods live in the substrate, eating mould and fallen leaves. They are why a sealed jar stays clear instead of fogging over.
Its own water cycle
Moisture evaporates, collects on the glass and rains back down. Once it settles, most of ours need water two or three times a year.
